WASHINGTON, Calif., Jan. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – As a small historic mining town in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, Washington sits at the foot of the Yuba River in Nevada County, northern Nevada California. With a year-round population of less than 100, residents of this remote city depend primarily on landline service for their communication needs. When a recent snowstorm left the city without phone service, Verizon Frontline and the Verizon Response Team were called in to help restore communications for the entire city. This assistance would prove essential as first responders and residents cope with the aftermath of a storm that dumped four feet of snow in three days.

Following a call from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office to the Verizon Response Team helpline, Verizon Frontline technology was immediately deployed to the city and local public safety professionals as they worked to help keep Washington residents safe while landline communications were restored.

By delivering a Picocell Satellite on a Trailer (SPOT) to Washington, the Verizon Response Team provided Verizon 4G LTE service and open Wi-Fi to all residents, regardless of their current mobile service provider.

“Communication is often the backbone of our response. Once our Emergency Operations Center discovered Washington residents were without power and communication, we were concerned critical 9-1-1 services could be affected, ”Nevada County Sheriff said , Shannan Moon. “Verizon intervened immediately and quickly provided a ‘SPOT’ system that restored cell phone communication to the area, not only to residents but also to first responders working in the city.”

Support in Washington was provided free of charge and was in place for as long as needed.

“Our work in Washington is another example of Verizon Frontline’s decades-long commitment to ensuring that first responders have the essential communication skills they need to do their jobs,” said Cory Davis, COO of Verizon Frontline Public Safety. “It is our privilege to be able to help those on the front lines who put their lives at risk to keep our communities safe. “

Verizon Frontline is the advanced network and technology designed for first responders – developed over nearly three decades of partnering with public safety officials and agencies – to meet their unique needs.

The Verizon Response Team provides on-demand emergency assistance during crisis situations to government agencies, emergency responders, nonprofits, and communities 24/7. Verizon Response Team members set up portable cell sites, Wi-Fi hotspots, free charging stations, and other Verizon Frontline devices and solutions that enable communications and / or enhance network performance.
